Spring Meet

April 2nd 2011
Spring Meet at Snow Ranch
Sport Scale
1/8A Streamer Duration *NARAM53 Event
Predicted Duration
D Superroc Altitude (altimeters)
I Predicted Altitude (High Power Event)

All events flown in conjunction with the Sport and High Power launch at Snow Ranch. If the launch happens, the meet happens, so stay tuned to the LUNAR Hotline. If you are a sport/high power flyer, no worry, the normal launch will happen.

Tips:

Sport Scale:

Build a somewhat realistic model of a real rocket or missile to the best of your ability and fly it. We request that if you're entering this event you pre-register by emailing contest at lunar.org so we can have a judge ready to judge all the entries. More details soon.

You get two chances to fly, the best flight (combined with static score) wins.

1/8A Streamer Duration:

Micromaxx! Any micromaxx-powered rocket recovered by a single streamer is legal. I'm looking for some kits, but the only one I've found so far is this crayon rocket from FlisKits (which is pretty cool anyway). I just bought 2 actually.

QCR also has a kit available...

This is a best of 2 combined flights event.

D Superroc Altitude (altimeters):

Fly a long rocket (1.5 to 3 meters long) as high as you can. The simplest way to enter this event is an Estes Mean Machine kit:

http://www.estesrockets.com/rockets/001295-mean-machinetm

And an altimeter from this list:

http://www.nar.org/pinkbook/G_altimeters.html

You only need one good flight to win, but you'll have to get the model back (so we can read the altimeter!).

The scores are as follows:

1 point for each centimeter of length, at least 150 (minimum length), max 300 (no points over 3 meters are given).

TIMES

1 point for each meter of altitude.

This is a best of 2 flights event. You can fly 2 different rockets, the same rocket, twice, etc., only the best flight counts.

Predicted Duration:

If you have a rocket, and it recovers safely in one piece (no kicking the motor!), you can fly this event. Load it up, declare how long it'll stay in the air (anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes) and fly it and get it timed. The winner is the one who came closest to their guess!

Best single flight! Must be flown before the other duration events!

I Predicted Altitude:

We're trying a high power event this time around, similar to the LUNAR Mile High Wall challenge. Fly an "I" motor in your rocket with an altimeter, predict the altitude (over 1000 feet required prediction), and see how close you can come. Full rules here:

http://www.nar.org/pdf/HPR%20Sporting%20Code%20(NAR)%202009%20Edition.pdf

This is a best single flight event as well!
